SPECIMEN POOL (Open)

The specimen pool is the premier big fish water in Scotland and boasts an average stock size of 6lbs, with a minimum of 4lbs and fish in the excess of 20lbs being caught from time to time. The pool has been swapped with the Coarse Pool to give the anglers and the fish more room. The pool is now over 2 acres in size with an average depth of 11feet. There are 6 platforms and 4 anchored bouys for 2 boats. A maximum of 7 anglers (inc 2 per boat) are allowed on the pool at anyone time which allows the fexability of a change of position if required. Groups of 10 can book the entire pool by contacting Johnny Whelan or Brad Chalmers.

Best flies tend to be mini lures such as the green pea and mini cats whisker. Smaller flies can work as well if the clarity is good enough. To date, the largest catch in the specimen pool is 23lbs 12ozs, caught by Jim Doyle (Montrose) on the 4th March 2002. He used a white bunny leech, which is the favoured pattern for catching big fish.

NEW BANKSIDE POOL (Open)

The Bankside pool offers great sport with the average stock size being 2lbs, however the pool record is 11lbs 8ozs which was caught by Ian Jack (Arbroath) in 2001 with a goldhead damsel nymph. The pool has forty fishing platforms.

Bankside pool tends to respond to smaller flies and all variations of the illustrious damsel nymph. Bloodworm imitations and buzzers also take a lot of fish all year round. The preferred patterns tend to be dries and buzzers, sometimes both at once. A CDC shuttlecock and a black buzzer on a dropper can be fantastic.

Once again catches are updated weekly for this pool. The Ferry Fly Dressers from Broughty Ferry recently broke all records for a club return by taking an impressive 46 fish weighing 110lbs for their 11 rods. The biggest fish was 6lb 2ozs, caught by junior member Bradley Chalmers.

APPLEHILL POOL (Open)

The Applehill Pool replaces the original Specimen Pool around the Boathouse. This pool is shallower and more shaded than the old Applehill Pool and should improve the coarse anglers experience. We have stocked carp (Common, Mirror and F1's) from 1 to 25lbs.and various sizes of roach, rudd and bream to allow fishing all year round. To date the biggest fish caught was a carp just under the Scottish record weighing 27lbs8oz (The record will surely be broken this year).

WOODSIDE POOL (Open)

This is our 'any legal' method pool which allows children and beginners alike to try their luck at fishing. We permit bait, fly and spinning although there is strictly no catch and release on this pool for obvious reasons. The average stock size is 1lb 6ozs with the record being 7lbs 4ozs, caught by Mr Stewart (Carnoustie) with a worm.

Best baits are sweetcorn, worm and maggott although the fly is as good as any, especially in the summer evenings.
