The fishing at kingennie this week has depended on the weather ,with the high winds and chilli mornings the fish have been gathering in the shallow bays in the Bankside pool taking lures like yellow dancers and black and greens fished on a floating line.On the warmer days the fishing have been close to the surface taking small un weighted damsels on floating lines.Kieth Prior from broughty ferry had a bumper of a day c&r over 10 most of which falling to a small damsel, He even managed to temp two or three on a dry off the surface. The specimen pool has fished well this week with favourites have been white cats and white bunny leach fished on an intermidiate.biggest fish this week was for David Breen the 1lbr fell to yellow dancer on a DI3 fished slow along the bottom.Woodside pool is still producing bigger fish with the average this week has been over the 2lb mark . Top method has been the good old worm fished under a float at about 6 feet ./

Week ending: 7th December 2008

Winter has well and truly set in at Forbes of Kingennie.

The cold weather over the last couple of weeks has killed off the weed and has improved the fishing on the bankside, with the weed dying off the fish have moved into the shallower water in the bays.

Despite the hard frost and snow the fish are still feeding on small flies such as spiders, sedges and weighted damsels. Notable catches as follows Mr. Bain 3 for 7lb Mr. Craig from Stirling c&r 22 on sedge patterns Mr. Day 4 for 12lb Mrs. Williamson 3 for 8lb Mr. black c&r 12 on damsels the specimen pool has fished a bit slower this week but those who braved the conditions had some nice fish.

The pool has fished best early morning, sinking lines and big lures seem to be the method of choice for most of the specimen hunters. The best fish of the week was caught by Mr. L Turner the fish topped the scales at 9lb 8 oz Liam tempted the fine rainbow on a green and white lure on a DI3 fished really slow .other notable catches as follows T James Dundee 2 for 16lb 3oz Mr. Potter Aberdeen 4 for 28lb Mr. Thompson 3 for 21lb grant Osler 2 for 16lb 5oz .

Week ending: 21st September 2008

Dry flies did the business on Kingennie's Bankside Pond this week. In particular, black Shipmans and CDC's accounted for most of the fish.

Catch and release anglers did particularly well, with several reporting double figures, and at least one expert, Gordon Patterson, having a red letter day with 23 caught and returned, with several between 3 and 4lbs.

Other catches included, Mr Soave, 2, 6lb, Mr Mitchell, 2, 4lb, Mr Ramage, 3, 9lb, Mr White, 2, 6lb, Mr Jamieson, 5, 13lb4oz, Mr Williamson, 4, 10lb2oz, Mrs Thompson, 3, 9lb and Mr White, 2, 6lb.

Fishing a father and son ticket, James Elliot and 13 year old son Jamie had
5 for 12lb 8oz, with young Jamie getting 3 to his dad's 2.

On the Specimen Pond, Browns have been to the fore in catches, with the best going to the rod of Bob Miller at 9lb8oz. Bob had 5 rainbows and browns for 29lbs for his 4 outings at Kingennie last week. Other catches included, Mr Steven, 1, 8lb12oz, Mr Ross, 3, 12lb, Mr Heenan, 1, 7lb, Mr Johnston 3, 19lb, (best a brown at 7lb8oz), Mr McCaskill, 1, 5lb8oz, Mr Littleton, 2, 14lb (including a 6lb8oz brown), Kirkcaldy Deaf Fly Fishers had 13 for 49lb8oz for their visit. Successful flies included, Silver Humungous, Black Zonker, Bunny Leech and Orange Fritz.

On the Woodside (any legal lure) Pond, some great quality rainbows and browns have been landed. Best fish for the week was a superb 5lb brown taken on a worm by George Sanderson fishing an OAP ticket. There have also been browns at 3lb8oz and 3lb4oz. Best rainbow was a fully finned three and a half pounder which gave a great account of itself on a light spinning rod and maggot. Catches included Mr Craig, 4, 4lb8oz, Mr Douglas, 2, 3lb 8oz, Mr Bartrop, 2, 2lb12oz, Mr Eton, 4, 6lb80z, Mr Sanderson, 3, 8lb, Mr Black, 8, 10lb8oz, Mr Barr, 5, 6lb, Mr Ferguson, 8, 9lb 8oz, Mr Bell, 6, 9lb, Mr Grieve, 10, 13lb8oz, Mr Reid, 2, 3lb, Mr Gray, 4, 6lb, Mr Fyffe and party, 6, 8lb12oz, Mr James, 4, 8lb, Mr Simpson, 2, 6lb, Mr Stirton, 12, 15lb. Worm was most successful, though fly anglers fishing orange blobs also did well.

Week ending: 14th September 2008

Another busy week on the Kingennie Bankside and Woodside Ponds saw very few blanks, and a good many happy anglers catching some of Kingennie's hard fighting trout. The Bankside Pond saw a real mix of lures and flies taking fish, with the honours pretty much even between lures and more traditional flies. Cats Whisker, Yellow Dancer, Cormorants and Zonkers in a variety of colours all took fish, while Floating Fry, Buzzers, Claret Hoppers, Sedges and Diawl Bachs fished on or close to the surface were also successful.

Bankside catches included Mr Davidson, 2, 4lb8oz, Mr Lamont, 2, 4lb10oz,and
3 returned, Mr Rigby, 2,5lb, Mr Hayes, 1,3lb, Mr Wells, 3,6lb, Mr McQueen, 1, 4lb8oz (brownie), Mr McNeil, 4, 12lb, and Mr Reid, 2,4lb. Mr Wilson had a fine basket of 6 for 15lb8oz, and Tam Kemlo had 10 for 26lb8oz and a number returned for his 5 sessions.

The Woodside (any legal lure) Pond continues to produce catches which include fish in the 3lb class. Everyone, including Mary Ellen, caught fish, with the total birthday catch coming in at 25 fish for 47lb 4oz.

The Specimen Pond was lightly fished this week, but the few who ventured out after Kingennie's big fish found them taking a variety of lures including Zonkers, Humungous and a Kingennie favourite, the Green Pea.

Catches included, Mr Rodger and partner, 4, 18lb8oz, Mr Easson, 1, 5lb, Mr Gerrard, 4, 18lb12oz. Ian Willis and party, fishing both the Specimen and the Bankside ponds, finished with 10 on the Specimen for 48lb14oz, and 9 on the Bankside for 20lb6oz. Water levels on all Kingennie's ponds are good, as is water clarity.

Week ending: 1st September 2008

This week saw distinctly warmer temperatures and considerably more fly life at the surface of all Ponds at Kingennie. The result was many more anglers fishing dries and CDC's and lots more surface action The Specimen Pond was the exception to that in that the majority of anglers chose to fish lures, albeit in the top two or three feet, and Yellow Dancer accounted for several good fish, as did Humungous in a variety of colours. Mr McDade had 3, 20lb, Mr Heenan, 2, 10lb8oz, Mr Miller had 4 for 21lb for his two visits to yellow dancer and a Miller Skunk. Mr Lawrie and party had 10 for 60lb8oz, with one of the party taking 4 brownies to a Daddy Long Legs. Other catches included Mr Wallace, 2, 9lb8oz, Mr Broomfield, 1, 6lb12oz, Mr Allan, 2,8lb, Mr Monkford, 3, 13lb8oz, Mr Simpson, 1, 5lb12oz, and Gilbert Cheetham, 1, 5lb12oz.

The Bankside Pond saw dries and CDC having most success, though a number of fish were taken on Booby's and Floating Fry fished on floating lines on the surface. Catches included Mr Whitton, 2, 4lb, Mr Hamilton, 1, 3lb, Mr Watson, 2, 4lb, Mrs Anderson, 3, 6lb, Mr Soave, 2, 8lb, Mr Waldron, 2, 6lb8oz, Mr Forsyth, 3, 6lb, Mr Green and partner, 4, 9lb8oz, Mr Morrison, 3, 6lb8oz, Mr Thompson, 2, 6lb8oz. Catch and release anglers enjoyed good sport to dries and buzzers fished in the surface film, and Mr Falconer had 6 caught and released on a Sedgehog.

The Woodside Pond produced some superb quality trout, including several to 3lb, with the best for the week at 4lb8oz. Worm, maggot, spinner and powerbait all had their share of success, and catches included, Mr Keillor, 3, 4lb8oz, Mr McLachlan, 5, 8lb, Mr Shepherd, 2, 4lb, Mr Frazer, 4, 9lb8oz, Mr Wakeford, 5, 11lb, Mr Rowling, no relation to JK, conjured up 2 for 6lb, Mr Muir, 2, 6lb8oz, Mr Shepherd, 2, 4lb8oz, Mr Stewart, 2, 4lb12oz, Mr Smith, 4, 7lb8oz, Mr Knox, 7, 11lb, Mr Stirton, 7, 9lb8oz, Mr Cumming, 2, 6lb. Messrs Goole, Baxter and Robertson each had 4 for 7lb.

The Coarse Pond continues to produce some big carp as well as good numbers of the smaller carp stocked earlier this summer. A few people have been experimenting with fly rod, floating line and floating dog biscuit, and have found that carp on a fly rod take some taming!

Week ending: 24th August 2008

Yet another unsettled week weatherwise, with anglers' ability to read the conditions and adapt tactics to suit them thoroughly tested. On the Bankside, every day saw different methods being more successful than others.

Early in the week, small dries and CDC's seemed to work best and at least one catch and release angler had 8 fish all to small dries, with his best fly being an old traditional favourite, a Wickham's Fancy, a fly not tried so often these days, but still clearly able to take its share of fish! Over the next day or two, buzzers fished just sub-surface did well, and the 'washing line', with a small booby on the point and either one or two buzzers on the middle and top dropper proved successful - an olive buzzer was the buzzer to use. As is often the case with that method, the booby attracted a few smash takes from fish up to 4lbs. Great fun watching a bow wave rushing towards the rings from a booby twitched a few inches, and nerves of steel needed to resist the temptation to strike. The takes being hard enough to set the hooks, and a strike by the angler being reported by one or two anglers as ending in being broken. The end of the week saw mini lures fished slowly on floating or intermediate lines so as not to be far below the surface having some success. The successful anglers were those who were prepared to experiment until they found the method working best - a message for all anglers! Just because something worked last time out, it doesn't mean to say it will work the next time! It's that capriciousness in trout behaviour which makes them such a challenging and enjoyable quarry.

Bankside catches included Reid, 2, 4lb, Mr. Taylor and partner, 8, 19lb, Mr Hayes 2, 4lb, Mr Christie, 1, 3lb. Fishing catch and release, Mr Cowan 6, Mr McCallum 5, Mr Thomson, 4, including 2 at around 4lb each.

On the Specimen Pond, Mr Brown had 3, 20lb, MrMuir, 3, 13lb, Mr Millar, 2, 10lb, just beaten by his grandson, Ryan, with 2, 11lb. Mr Jackson, 2, 16lb including a fine 8lb brown, Mr Jordan 2, 14lb, both browns. Again anglers looking for the big fish are having to search all levels of the water until they find the depth they are feeding at. Yellow Dancer and Cats Whisker lures were most successful.

The Woodside any legal lure pond saw most baits again proving successful, with maggot and worm only just outcatching powerbait and fly. Catches included Mr Dyson, 3, 5lb, Mr Scott, 4, 6lb8oz, Mr Meechan, 2,4lb, Mr Rabinowitz, 4, 6lb8oz, Mr McMillan, 6, 8lb 12oz, Mr Dixon, 4, 7lb, Mr Jarrow, 3, 4lb8oz and Mr Stewart, 4, 6lb12oz. Mr Robbins and his grandson had 8 trout in two outings for 9lb 8oz, and a surprise 1lb roach which had obviously escaped from the Kingennie Coarse Pond, the Boathouse pool, only to have its bid for freedom cut short by young master Robbins! The Boathouse Pool has also been fishing well, and coarse anglers have been pleased by both the numbers and size of the young carp stocked over the summer.

Kingennie's next Bankside competition will be fished next Sunday, 31st August starting at 9am. Places can be booked by phoning Kingennie on 01382 350777.

As usual there will be some great tackle prizes up for grabs.

Week ending: 17th August 2008

As water levels and water clarity went back to normal after last week's deluge, all the ponds at Kingennie produced good results. Most baits took fish in the Woodside any legal lure pond. Powerbait was popular early in the week while there was still a little colour in the water, but as the week wore on and the water cleared, worm and maggot came into their own. Catches included Mr Smith, 3, 5lb, Mr Brown, 2, 4lb, Mr Lockwood, 3, 5lb, Mr Barnett, 8, 12lb, Mr McShane and party, 8, 14lb8oz, Mr Hill, 3, 5lb and Mr Laird, 3, 6lb.

The Specimen Pond was lightly fished this week, but those who ventured out had good sport. Mr Alexander had a fine 6lb brownie, Mr Miller, 2, 13lb, Mr Ramsay and party took 11 for 61lb 8oz, and Mr McAndrew had a brace of browns for 10lbs.

The Bankside Pond saw regular catch and release exponents putting their intimate knowledge of the water to good use, and not only were good catches number wise taken, but a number of quality, hard fighting rainbows in the 4 to 5lb class figured among them. Olive buzzers were particularly successful, but booby's fished on the surface so as to create a bit of wake and disturbance also attracted some savage takes.

Other catches included Mr Forteith, 2, 4lb8oz, Mr Bartrum, 5, 10lb8oz, Mr Hamilton, 2, 5lb, Mr Thomson, 4, 12lb8oz, Mr Anderson, 4, 8lb, and Mr Hayes, 6, 13lb.

The young carp stocked a few weeks ago into the coarse pond, the Boathouse Pool, are showing signs of putting on weight quickly and some good carp have even been taken on the fly this week.

Week ending: 10th August 2008

In a week which has seen very variable weather, fishing returns have been just as variable. Kingennie, like many other locations this week has seen some torrential rain which, while ensuring that water levels are at maximum in all ponds, has been very unsettling for the fish.

Perhaps because of the influx of water from Kingennie's feeder burn, the any legal lure Woodside Pond has produced some fine catches for bait anglers, with worm doing particularly well in the slightly coloured water. Catches included Mr Norrie, 6, 9lbs8oz, Mr Freeman, 4, 6lbs, Mr Heggie, 7, 11lbs, Mr Peters, 4, 8lbs8oz, Mr Williams, 5, 9lbs8oz, Mr Hall, 4, 8lbs. A number of 2lb plus fish figured in many baskets, and many of Kingennie's young anglers on the Woodside found themselves having to take their time playing and landing these quality rainbows.
Perhaps most delighted of all was 13 year old Andrew Small, Dundee, who caught the fish of a lifetime - so far! - at 4lbs. Specimen Pond catches were affected by the high water levels, but included Mr Fulton, 3, 21lbs, Mr Miller, 2, 11lbs8oz, Mr Murphy, with 1 at 7lbs, Mr Henderson, 2, 14lbs8oz.

As water levels settle down, the big trout can be seen cruising the margins looking for fry which are beginning to shoal up, and the sight of big bow waves a foot or two off the reeds is setting pulses racing. Prospects look good for the coming week. The Bankside Pond has produced some good baskets for those who managed to catch the lulls between cloudbursts, and intermediate lines have produced more fish than floaters for probably the first time this season. Some anglers persevered with floating lines and the dries and CDC's which have been so successful in recent weeks, but small lures and diawl bachs, red and green in particular, fished sub-surface, were most productive. Catches included Mr Millburn, 4, 9lbs 8oz, Mr Johnston, 5, 10lbs8oz, Mr Donnelly, 2, 4lbs8oz, Mr Muir, 4, 11lbs, Mr Clark and partner, 6, 16lbs.

The Coarse Pond, which is first in line to get the coloured water from the burn in spate, has, perhaps precisely because it has been coloured, fished well, and the carp anglers have had a number of good fish this week.

Week ending: 20th July 2008

Kingennie held a Fishermans Week last week, and kicked things off with a visit by Paul Young of Hooked on Fishing fame. As well as wetting a line himself, Paul spent time with a number of Kingennie's young anglers, passing on some of the expertise he has gained from his fishing exploits world wide.

There were free barbecues and drinks every evening for anglers on the Woodside and Bankside pools, as well as fun competitions and prizes for the heaviest fish each evening.

Woodside catches were good throughout the week, and included, Mr Kerr, 4, 7lbs12oz, Mr Docherty, 4, 6lbs, Mr Spottiswood, 2, 4lbs, Mr Brown, 4, 9lbs (best, 3lbs), Mr Hayes and Partner 8, 12lbs, Mr Stewart, 4, 7lbs12oz, Mr Ramsay, 6, 9lbs, and Mr Peterson and party, 8, 15lbs.The Bankside Pool, experienced some good rises, particularly later in the evening, and catches included Mr Fitzpatrick, 3 for 7lbs, Mr Whitecross 2 for 5lbs 12 oz, Mr Barclay 3 for 8lbs 8oz, and Mr Watson 1, 3lbs.

Bankside anglers who catch their limit can of course keep fishing on a catch and release basis until the end of their session, and The Bankside has a fair number of catch and release adherents.

One very happy angler last week was Mr Fenemore who e-mailed the fishery team the day after his session on the Bankside saying "6 fish for 20lbs 7oz and 22 caught and returned - a fantastic nights fishing with an olive shipman size 12.

When the main rise came on, it was a fish a cast! Many thanks for a great night."

On the Specimen Pool, the big browns put in a welcome appearance, and catches there included Mr Miller, 2 browns for 13lbs, Mr McHardy 3
(rainbows) 21 lbs, Mr Steel and partner 3, 18lbs 12ozs, Mr McKay, 1-10lbs, Mr Thompson 2 for 17lbs (including a 8lbs 12oz brown, including an 8lbs brownie.

The Coarse Pond has also produced some big carp this week, mainly to floating dog biscuits.

Fishermans Week was rounded off by an all night competition commencing at 10 p.m. on Friday, finishing with breakfast at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Winners on the Bankside, were 1st, Willie Agnew, 2nd Jim Muir, 3rd Mike Mitchell. Winner on the Woodside was Keith Clarke.

Week ending: 29th June 2008

When the wind is in the west, the fishing is the best - so runs part of an old Fishermans' rhyme, and it certainly proved to be true at Kingennie this week when the easterly winds which we've had for weeks now turned on a few occasions to the normally prevailing west or south west.

The Woodside (any legal lure) Pool was very productive at times, with some good sized fish to two and a half pounds featuring in the catches which included Mr Pattie, 3 for 4lbs, Mr Cargill, 8 for 13lbs, Mr Nugent, 8 for 10lbs, Mr Moore and party 8 for 12lbs and Mr Framington, 6 for just under 9lbs. Tight Lines AC with 5 rods, had 20 for 21lbs 8ozs.

The Bankside Pool has seen some great rises of fish, with water clarity good, and some very happy anglers enjoying the hard fighting qualities of the Bankside fish. Among this weeks catches have been Mr Kemlo, 2 for 8lbs, Mr Murray and party, 4 for 15lbs, Mr Henderson, 3 for 9lbs 8oz, Mr Hampton, 6 for 13lbs 8oz, and Mrs Anderson, 5 for 13lbs. Some catch and release anglers reported getting into double figures for fish caught.

Small dries, CDC's, and buzzers were consistently successful.

Catches this week on the Specimen Pool included Mr Bairner, 4 for 26lbs, Mr Thomson, 2 for 16lbs 8ozs, Mr Miller 2 for 16lbs 8ozs, Mr Willocks and party, 11 for 73lbs 12oz, and Mr Fyffe, 1 at 11lbs 8oz.

Although not heavily fished this week, the Boathouse Pool has seen regular sightings of the big carp cruising at the surface, and they have been augmented by a stocking of a mixed bag of smaller carp, Ide, and F1 Hybrids, with more silver fish to follow in due course.

Friday 18th July is the date of an all-night competition on both the Bankside and Woodside Pools, with breakfast included at 7am, and some great prizes up for grabs. Places are limited, so to book your place, phone Kingennie Country Resort on 01382 350777 now.

The long awaited improvement in the weather was welcomed by anglers at Kingennie with the rise in both air and water temperature bringing some good rises of fish on all ponds. The Bankside Pond in particular saw some prolific rises in the evenings, though day rods also reported fish moving steadily throughout day. Many went away happy with limit baskets taken on small black buzzers and black bodied CDC's which proved to be the most successful combination. Even those who found them hard to tempt were astonished by the numbers of fish they saw rising.

Mr Godfrey and Mr Gunn, fishing catch and release together, had 15 for their session, including a superbly conditioned brownie of around three and a half pounds. Mr Martin and his fishing partner had a great day on Saturday, taking 12 for 29lbs 10ozs.

The Specimen Pond also saw fish cruising and feeding at the surface, and Mr Willis and guests, fishing for two days, had 23 fish for 174lbs, including 3 doubles.

The any legal lure Woodside Pond saw good numbers of fish to 2lbs taken, with worm, maggot, spinner and powerbait all taking their share of trout.

Water clarity is excellent on all Ponds, and with more good weather forecast for the next week, prospects for fly hatches and more good rises of fish are excellent.

As the week went on the weather just seemed to get worse and worse this putting the fish down and making them feed near the bottom making them abet harder to catch on dries.

WOODSIDE POOL

Week Ending: 28th March 2008

Cold winds in the early part of last week kept anglers at home and the fish 'down'. However, those who did venture out found fish willing to take when the temperature rose even a degree or two.

On the bankside pond, small flies were successful, with good fish from two to three pounds being taken with several going to 4lbs and over. The Woodside pool saw baits ranging from worms to maggot to powerbait all taking fish. The recently re-opened Specimen Pond has been fishing really well, and anglers have been delighted to enjoy taking quality browns and rainbows. The stocking of big browns has been a great success, and has seen fish to eight and a half pounds taken, with more browns than rainbows coming off. The colder weather meant lures fished deep were most successful, but any warmer spells around late morning/early afternoon saw fish being taken closer to the surface.

Among the returns were -

Specimen Pond
Mr Bairner, 4-23lb 8oz
Mr Melville, 4-25lb.

Bankside comp winner was Willie Agnew from Dundee with 7 fish for 14lb. Second place Tam Kemlo 5-13lb 12oz including a brown of 8lb.

Mr Maddox, 6-19lb 6oz
Mr Downie,6-23lbs 8oz
Mr Dobbie, 2-8lbs
Mr Broomfield, 2-8lbs 4oz.

There have also been encouraging signs that the coarse fish are settling well into their new home in the former Specimen Pond with reports of sightings of the big carp in the Applehill Pond stirring up mud and bubbles as they feed hard on the bottom, giving grounds for optimism that 2008 will be a good season for Kingennie's coarse anglers.
